Stock Lending & Borrowing Mechanism (SLBM)
Stock Lending & Borrowing Mechanism (SLBM) allows long term investors to earn on their idle shares in portfolio by lending it in the market. SLBM is a separate execution platform provided by National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange to lend and borrow shares. All the borrowing and lending are Cleared, Settled & Guaranteed by National Securities Clearing Corporation of India (NSCCL), the clearing corporation of the National Stock Exchange of India as well as by Indian Clearing Corporation Limited (ICCL), the clearing corporation of Bombay Stock Exhange. By Lending of securities, the lender only earn lending fees and forms part of ‘Income from other Sources’ There is no Capital Gains tax as there is no sale or transfer of shares, vide a CBDT circular.
